Hello everyone, I'm new to the site/forum.
I recently moved to the L.A. area from clear across the country and realized that there might actually be other TT p_layer_s out here!
My last place of residence was Jacksonville, NC. A Military town in which I managed to find a few other recreational p_layer_s, but there were no clubs or competitive organizations to be found. Before that I lived in Vermont where my brother and father taught me a great love for the game, but neither of them had competed either.
In short, I'm finally in a place where I can find some real p_layer_s and organizations. My goal is to bone up on my skills and try to enter the San Diego open in May, but I'm afraid I have a lot to learn.
Anyone have any tips for a would-be tournament p_layer_?

Hello!
I would recommend visiting the San Diego Table Tennis Club. It is a very active club in the San Diego area with tons of great p_layer_s. I'm sure there would be someone who would gladly help you out. Their website is

sure dude..work on a simple backhand serve where the ball barely goes over the net...put a little back spin on it and keep it low..this way you wont lose points outright on the serve.

if you're rusty you dont want to do any pendulum serves for the time being...

one of the most hilarious things i have ever seen on video was a clip of a pretty well known coach named cheng yinghua (sp) ..ahem..*teaching* a senior citizen not only a pendulum serve but a pendulum serve that tried to impart THREE types of spin on the ball....a GREAT serve to be sure...but pretty high end stuff and NOT for this guy in his late 60's who specifically asked just prior to his...ahem...*lesson* that Cheng show him a serve that he could "just get in play"

other than that...take some video of yourself if you can...it will do wonders...or should

one other thing...no matter what..simply act decisively without reserve....
