2009 NEW YORK CITY OPEN
Presented by the American Youth Table Tennis Organization
April 11 and 12, 2009
Frances Levien Gymnasium, Dodge Fitness Center,
Columbia University,
Broadway and West 119th Street, NYC, NY.
At last! Here we are, playing the world’s greatest sport in America’s greatest city! With the support and for the benefit of the American Youth Table Tennis Organization (AYTTO) NATT is operating this four-star sanctioned tournament on Manhattan’s Upper West Side.
New York City! Home to the United Nations, the Empire State Building, Broadway and the Statue of Liberty, with the greatest museums, restaurants, shows and sporting tradition in America. Could there be a more fabulous place to put our sport on display or for you to enjoy a weekend?
Here we have a fine facility, with wooden floor and minimal outside light, the Frances Levien Gymnasium. Located in Columbia University’s Dodge Fitness Center at Morningside Heights, it’s convenient to players both in and outside of the ‘Big Apple’! Full travel directions by car, plane and subway are available from the facility’s website, http://www.gocolumbialions.com/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=9600&KEY=&ATCLID=319179 . We’ll be retracting the bleachers to provide three full NCAA regulation size basketball courts of playing area. Orange balls will be used.
We’re out to make a splash, with VIP invitations to come see the competition for Open Singles Champion. We’re opening the doors to the kids of the American Youth Table Tennis Organization, to show them how their after-school program can lead to a National and International competitive stage. Join us in this stellar event, raise the profile of our sport and help us strengthen an excellent grass-roots organization at the same time. We expect this event to be the first edition of an annual, growing tournament, building a premier table tennis championship in the heart of New York City.
We’ll bring the JOOLA tables, the barriers and balls and provide the tournament operations. You bring your ‘A’ game and compete for cash and trophies in the first ever New York City Open! Together, we’ll show the world what we and this sport are all about.
